Thumper bunny hats to be featured this fall at 54pineapples.

Heart-shaped knot hole!

The weather on Monday prevented people from enjoying outdoor seating at many restaurants in the DC area. I thought these stacked chairs provided an interesting combination of texture and color.

I attended the 10th Annual National Book Festival on the National Mall in Washington, DC on Saturday. It was a terrific day of celebrating authors and books. My personal highlight was getting Jonathan Franzen to sign "The Corrections" and "Freedom" for me. Franzen and I first met in 2006, when I was assigned "The Corrections" to read, discuss, and then write a paper on! While not my favorite novel, there is something about the story that I found fascinating. After hearing Franzen speak at the Book Festival, I became a fan, and promptly bought both books for him to sign! (I would suggest Robert Downey Jr. for the role of Chip.)

Isn't this cute? It was on the label of some beautiful yarn I was working with recently. (You'll have to check out 54pineapples to see how beautiful, and what the end result was!) I would just make one small change . . . Crochet, Relax, Smile. Repeat!

I was serious . . . all my time is devoted to 54pineapples these days. Another sneak preview . . . photo courtesy of Director of Marketing.

September 21, 2010

54pineapples has completely dominated my time and thoughts the last few weeks, as we prepare to re-launch. Here is just a tease of what to expect (photo taken by Director of Marketing)!

Spotted on a walk in the area. Someone's name or a sign?!?!

Beautiful orange berries adorn a tree on the side of my cousin's house.

This pansy has literally transplanted itself into the rock covered garden by my front step. She seems to be doing all right!

And, last but not least for this week's tour of my favorite local places, is the farmer's market. I come here regularly, but today is the first time I noticed this plaque on the side of the farmhouse. It reads, "Built 1802."

September 16, 2010

Another favorite local place is a family run Italian restaurant with a lovely outdoor seating area, and this statue of a heron (or is it a crane?) along the outside edge of the patio.

Membership has its privileges! Since I'm a regular at the local coffee shop, and since it's staffed by very friendly people, I was treated to a delicious oatmeal raisin cookie with my coffee this afternoon!

September 14, 2010

I've been colossally busy this week sewing and crocheting items that will be introduced in the 54pineapples fall line (store reopens October 1st!). In what has become a daily event, I make time for a relaxing visit to my favorite local coffee shop, to enjoy a delicious coffee and bask in some sun for a little while. (Notice the color of the fallen leaf trapped in the crevice of the sidewalk . . . fall is coming!)

Not sure if the person who hung this sign has access to a level, but the sentiment is spot on. Words of wisdom from the local grocery store.

September 12, 2010

A dreary day left me wandering around inside the house for today's photo. This is one of my favorite flea market finds - an antique(y) oval personal mirror.

This fuzzy little bud will be next spring's beautiful pink magnolia.

Can't resist a mirror shot! Or avoid a mirror in this dress shop!

More work on the foyer floor today kept me confined to the upstairs of the house. The regular whirring of the drill to cut the marble was vaguely reminiscent of the dentist's drill and worked on my nerves. However, when the smoke alarm went off, I knew it was time for a break. Of course, I headed for my favorite local coffee shop. These "to go" cups are supposedly the good-for-the-environment, vegetable-based-but-don't-eat-them variety.

Spotted at the Jazz It Up Wine Festival in Allaire State Park, NJ.

September 4, 2010

Fresh peaches, apples, pears, and strawberries marinating in Red, White & Blueberry wine!

September 3, 2010

I was at the local farmer's market this morning to pick up corn and some other delicious fresh produce for cookouts this weekend, and snapped the three stages of the biggest hibiscus flowers I've ever seen. These hibiscus plants are planted outside and come back year after year. The bloom is a burgundy color. As the bloom unfolds, the color gets brighter and brighter.
I love the accordion-pleated back. And it's pretty nice from the front too!

My personal version of an adorable little book worm. This little sculpture sits on my front step in the shade of a large pot containing a hibiscus. And this view shows a faded hibiscus bloom serving as a book mark . . .

Recently I started buying this brand of salad dressing and trying a few different flavor varieties. Tonight was this first time I noticed that on the back where the ingredients are listed, etc., there's a small map of Texas in a circle and the words "Go Texan" written underneath!

The recent dry, hot weather has made my backyard bird bath a popular spot. And sometimes the birds don't wait patiently for their turn! This blue jay feather was stuck in the grass near the bird bath after a squabble over who was next.

This bronze statue is a recent addition to the children's section of our local library. Isn't she adorable?
It reminds me of this equally adorable sculpture located outside of a library in Doylestown.
